SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 15, 2005-- Solution Increases Protection of Customer Information for Travel Agents Sabre Holdings, a world leader in the travel industry, has deployed a Secure Information Access Solution using Virtual Private Network (VPN) products from Nortel (NYSE:NT)(TSX:NT) to provide an enterprise-wide solution for secure and reliable Internet-based travel agent connectivity. Given Sabre's vast network of travel agencies, this makes it among the largest SSL VPN deployments in the world to date
This new technology is supporting MySabre, a Web-based booking portal used by travel agents.
MySabre offers its customers a highly customized user experience while providing products that help them generate additional revenue and cut costs
"Nortel's SSL VPN technology is an important part of our technology roadmap," said Craig Murphy, chief technology officer, Sabre Holdings.
"It's increasing the speed at which customer access moves toward Internet technologies while we further expand on open systems and a services-oriented architecture." This deployment continues Sabre Holdings' strategic relationship with Nortel. It supports Sabre's wide range of secure access networking requirements, including support of both traditional IPsec remote and branch VPN access
"Nortel's approach to SSL VPNs shows that it respects the investments enterprises have made in their traditional VPN infrastructure, and that it understands that traditional VPN access methods will be around for quite some time," said Kevin Tolly, president, chief executive officer and founder of The Tolly Group, which specializes in information technology certification, research and testing.
"High-performance security capabilities and tight integration between SSL and traditional VPN access, coupled with the support for secure voice communications, make the Nortel VPN Portfolio especially attractive." Nortel provides layered-defense security, which uses multiple approaches to security enforcement at multiple points within a network to improve the resilience and continuity of the network as well as adaptability against new threats
"Nortel helps businesses stay at the forefront of online security technologies by delivering enhanced network access capabilities," said Malcolm Collins, president, Enterprise Networks, Nortel.
"With our Secure Information Access solution, Sabre is providing a safer environment for its customers to conduct business." Nortel has made secure connectivity available to more than 100 million users worldwide.
