WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 2005--WildPackets Inc., innovators in advanced network analysis and Solera Networks, developers of high-performance network packet recorder appliances jointly announced their alliance, to deliver a high-speed, high-volume, low-cost data capture and mining solution to the enterprise. Coupling WildPackets' Omnipliance(TM) with the Solera DS Series network packet recorder platform enables high-speed capture, stream aggregation from two or more sources, regeneration to one or multiple devices, and indexed storage for data mining and forensics. The Omnipliance distributed network analysis appliance is optimized end-to-end for Gigabit Ethernet and WAN analysis, and sends real-time analytics and monitoring results to a central OmniPeek console. The Solera DS Series is a suite of "stream-to-disk" network packet recorder appliances that blows away the gigabit barrier. Using groundbreaking technology, Solera Networks' devices capture, archive, and regenerate network traffic data at unprecedented rates; Packet capture and storage to the hard disk subsystem, not just RAM, is in excess of 300 MegaBytes per second, the equivalent of well over 2 Gigabits per second, on a sustained basis; The open platform provides seamless, native integration with Linux applications (such as Snort IDS) and devices, near immediate packet regeneration for live expert analysis by the WildPackets Omni DNX Engine, and support for native WildPackets file formats; The user can recall packet captures from any time and date from up to 128 Terabytes of collected data (the hard disk subsystem acts like a giant first-in, first-out data buffer), making for an excellent data mining and forensics tool. Filters (such as a particular IP address) may also be applied to post-capture packets, allowing selected data to be read and analyzed by OmniPeek over a greater time span
"Building a preferred partnership with WildPackets creates a unified solution that leapfrogs current offerings available in the marketplace today. We believe that, together, we deliver unprecedented visibility to network traffic behavior. Our mutual customers stand to benefit in a reduction of total cost-of-ownership, decreased risk and vulnerability, and increased response time in network troubleshooting and prevention," said Steve Jones, CEO Solera Networks
According to J. Scott Haugdahl, WildPackets CTO, "The combined Solera and Omni platform provides far more flexibility than just a distributed long term packet store and packet analysis solution.
The ability to aggregate streams from multiple NICs and regenerate the traffic to different ports can also replace many TAP applications and allow multiple tools, such as IDS appliances, to co-exist side-by-side with Omni, with zero additional investment in specialized hardware."
