The Xpress, DynaVox's revolutionary battery-powered handheld device, lets those with speech challenges take DynaVox technology with them, into the broader society. By selecting the Eurotech Catalyst Module as the embedded computing platform, DynaVox engineers were able to deliver powerful communication functionality in a small size and sleek design to make mainstream use possible.
The Xpress unit from DynaVox, a powerful handheld augmentative communication device, allows people who are unable to speak to communicate freely. It has a simple user interface that lets people select words, ideas and full sentences so they can interact with others easily. It is small, portable, easy to use and discreet, so it can be used in any environment.
"We selected the Eurotech Catalyst Module because they had the Intel Atom processor we were looking for, as well as the embedded design and software expertise to help us deliver the precise platform that would set our Xpress product apart," commented Bob Cunningham, Chief Technology Officer for DynaVox Mayer-Johnson.
The contract covers both hardware and engineering services centered on the Intel Atom processor that powers the DynaVox Xpress(TM). The device hosts DynaVox Mayer -Johnson's InterAACT(TM) communication framework and lets people challenged by speech interact more effectively. For a detailed account of the development process, read the case study on the Eurotech website at http://www.eurotech-inc.com/resources.asp.
Note: even though the amount of the contract does not represent a substantial sum for Eurotech (under one million USD per year), the contract itself is quite important for the Company, because it reaffirms the increasing presence in the medical sector and it could also lead to further contracts in the same application field in the near future. Should this be the case, Eurotech reaffirms its commitment to informing the market in a timely manner.
